Phonology & Phonological Awareness
Phonological awareness is the ability to recognize and manipulate the sounds in language.
Morphology
Morphology is the study of how morphemes are combined to form words. A morpheme is the smallest unit of meaning in the language, such as base words, roots, and affixes.
Sound-Symbol Associations
This is the ability to connect individual sounds (phonemes) in language with the letter or letters that represent them (graphemes).
Syntax
Syntax is the arrangement of words and phrases in a sentence to convey meaning. This includes grammar, sentence variation, and the mechanics of language.
Syllable Instruction
Instruction includes teaching the seven basic syllable types in the English language as well as syllable division rules.
Semantics
Semantics is the part of language concerned with meaning. This includes instruction in the comprehension of written language.
